Product Overview
Kaucus is a next-generation derivatives and private-market trading platform built for the African financial ecosystem. It empowers users to trade options, futures, and tokenized private company shares using local fiat currencies such as NGN, KES, ZAR, and GHS. Designed for both retail and institutional traders, Kaucus unifies high-performance trading technology with an intuitive, mobile-first design that makes advanced financial products accessible across the continent.
The product offers a complete trading environment including a full derivatives suite, a private-market module, real-time market data, risk management tools, and institutional-grade compliance infrastructure all optimized for speed, accuracy, and regional accessibility.
Problem Statement
Africa has a rapidly growing population of crypto and digital asset traders, yet access to advanced financial instruments remains limited. Existing global exchanges rarely support African fiat currencies, local settlement methods, or regional regulatory frameworks. As a result, traders face friction, high FX costs, and limited tools for hedging or market participation.
At the same time, private-market investing in Africa remains fragmented and inaccessible to everyday users making it difficult for investors to buy shares in promising local startups or explore tokenized assets.
There was a clear need for a unified platform where African users could trade derivatives, access private markets, and use their local currencies all within a secure, high-speed, and user-friendly environment.
My Role
To bring that vision to life, I worked directly with the founders and technical team, covering a blend of UX strategy, interface design, and feature definition. My goal was to deliver a complete, implementation-ready design foundation that the engineering team could scale into a live product.
Design Process
My process was flexible and adapted to the project’s demands. Working as a freelancer meant maintaining fast communication with the client, aligning on technical feasibility, and iterating quickly.
Product Solution
My task was to design a unified ecosystem where users could seamlessly manage derivatives trading, access private-market opportunities, handle multi-currency wallets, and maintain compliance through KYC/AML flows—all without overwhelming the user.
The solution centered around:
A modular trading terminal with real-time data, charts, and advanced order types
A full options and futures suite, optimized for NGN-based pricing
A private-market exchange for buying and selling vetted private-company shares
Multi-currency wallets that support African fiat + crypto
An institutional-grade admin platform for compliance, listings, and risk monitoring
Through UX clarity and structured navigation, the final product makes complex trading accessible while maintaining professional reliability.
